Do We Truly Understand What Intersectionality Is?
Lately, there has a been a great deal of discussions occurring around the topic of cultural relevance, cultural pedagogy, intersectionality, BIPOC, cultural fluency, cultural disparities, and equality. The last 20 months has exposed a great of alarming truths about our nation and how individuals of various backgrounds and races are treated. It has been tough digesting these discussions and being exposed to the unfortunate experiences of others which often lead to people of color being killed.
In an effort to keep an open mind while validating this harsh realties, I have devoted a great amount of time to being a part of many conversations taking place at the collegiate level. I am also currently enrolled in a 5-week course which focuses on Culturally and Responsive Anti-racism Equity; building on social justice, advocacy, inclusion and diversity, as well as connection and belonging related to students.
I came across a very powerful video in completing my assignments and wanted to share it with you all. This video left a feeling of "I need to do better; I need to be more aware".
