Environment Is More Important Than Heredity

When one thinks of environment and heredity, it is difficult to fathom environment playing a larger role than heredity. However, research has shown that that even if you have specific genes, environment can trump those genes and produce very different outcomes;  the aspect of nature vs nurture. Enjoy this ARTICLE

There are many environmental factors which may play a part in an individual's behavior, perception, and outlook on life and situations. Personal challenges and familial trauma can also affect an individual. When reading this article and seeing this photo, both reminded me of my interactions with various individuals I have worked with. Regardless of the environment we attempt to establish outside our homes, those environments will include individuals who do not think or believe as we do; which is a great thing because we need to have exposure to various individuals and or cultures. However, how do we respond when those individuals create a climate that is difficult to thrive in? Do we remain in that environment out of comfort and complacency and hope it gets better, or do we take the necessary steps to remove ourselves?

Honestly, it took me some time to realize that staying in one place for many, many years is not loyalty; it is okay to move on and do things that "set your soul on fire". Choosing to put your personal mental health first is not a crime, it is not betrayal. It is wise to understand that there are reasons and seasons and it's perfectly fine to learn from those reasons, and move on to other seasons. You cannot have a harvest during the season you are sowing; you must first sow then reap the benefits of your harvest. Often times the sowing occurs when we are learning life lessons and learning about interactions with other individuals. It is during that time that we try discover what will best serve our souls and what will not. It is those lessons that will help us harvest a new way thinking, behaving, and responding (or not responding) to things that serve us and things that do not serve us.

The last 16 months have taught us a great deal. We have learned of inadequacies, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, lack of resources, disparity in our education system, as well as lack of leadership. If the environment and culture of our nation has not challenged you to want to be and do better, I'm not sure we were living in the same era. We have do better personally and in our interactions with others if we truly want to be successful. Pointing fingers and blaming others for our inadequacies and lack of performance will not fix our inabilities, instead it will shed light on what we are truly incapable of doing. Therefore, we must do better. We must take accountability.

In the end, it does not matter how we were raised, it matters how we move and function as a human in the environments we are placed in or find ourselves in. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone remembered what their mother and father taught them about being polite and not throwing stones from glass houses? To be honest, that's an entirely different conversation!

Thank you for stopping by and reading my thoughts today, and remember that what you put into the universe will return to you threefold.
